Me and You Eating Raspberries

Luisa-Evelina Stifii

May 13

Piece by Luisa-Evelina Stifii. Image titled ” ” by

raspberry juice leaking

disintegrating

in your hands

as clouds thronged the piece

of sky above

a rabbit shelter—

the rabbits’ red eyes seemed to

melt in the sun

and

take the shape

of our raspberries so

you can later see

by looking in their eyes

how to carve my body

one more time.

every morning

I would feed rabbits

a handful of raspberries

before entering school where

I’d memorize your

thigh as you climbed

climbed the stairs

unaware of my presence

that you’d later

crave for.

rabbits also memorized

landforms of

my palms and lips,

distance between

my nose tip and forehead,

circumference of

my arms and calves.

yet you claimed my gaze

got engraved in your DNA

and only yours

I’ll return to you

speaking another language

after I’ll have changed

the shape of

my eyes

nose

lips

ears

arms

wrist

fingers

waist

hips

thighs

calves

ankles.

and even then,

my gaze will be same.
